根据爱沙尼亚女人厄娜的记忆改编，讲述了大批民众被放逐到西伯利亚的故事和这批民众如何在饥饿、寒冷、冷漠、失去友情和自由中生存，当所有的希望消失殆尽，他们又如何继续活下去的故事。。故事主线讲述一名开通的爷爷张通，因儿子及媳妇突于飞机失事，他遂负起照顾男孙子辉，孙女佩玲、佩丽、佩珊的责任。一家人相亲相爱，却又常因各人性格不同，产生不少拗撬，发生很多事故。子辉毕业后，进入广告公司工作。故事会从子辉这个人物，带出办公室政治，将其中种种矛盾之处，以嬉笑怒骂的方式加以讽刺，令人会心微笑。。RTÉ's new five-part 1916 commemorative drama Rebellion begins with the outbreak of World War I.
